東京都出身、慶大哲学科に在学中にアウグスチヌスの時間論や歌唱論に関する著作を読む中で、「歌う」ことや内面に働きかけた表出活動は自分のいのちの奥の豊かなものを引き出し、讃美するかけがえのない行為であることを確信する。同時期に自分の内省のためのノートに言葉だけでなく「色」を使い始め、絵のようなもの(?!)を描きはじめる。

Jazz ハーモニー/コンポジションを安田芙充央に師事し、米国、Boston の Berklee College of Music  (バークリー音楽院) にて、Vocal Jazz Improvisation を Bob Stoloffに、Songwriting をHenry Gaffneyに学ぶ。クラシック/オペラ歌唱法は、Longy School of Music (ロンジー音楽院) の Robert Honeysucher、Donna Roll、Noriko Yasuda に師事。
歌唱・呼吸法を中村明一に師事。

 

Hidetake Yamakawa was born in Tokyo, Japan. He received his degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music, and also studied Operatic Vocal Performance at Longy School of Music. His work includes the blending of classical vocal techniques with that of pop music, the development of a unique style of music with instruments rich in harmonic overtones, as well as recent developments in Neo-Japonism, combining sound with color. Yamakawa provides music for Tamatsuka Mitsuru’s company Tamapro, as well as for the experimental films made by the collaborative production team, Sagi Tama, in collaboration with dancers and poets.
